Glossary

Getting started with cannabis can be confusing. To help you demystify the process and feel more comfortable during your next dispensary visit, we’ve created this guide. 

Our cannabis glossary offers definitions for some of the most prevalent cannabis terms you’ll come across. These are pretty standard terms that you’ll see on our online menu and hear in our dispensary. If you need help decoding terms not listed in our cannabis glossary, contact us!

Badder: A creamy, butter-like concentrate also known as batter. Very similar to budder but with a slightly different consistency. 

BHO: Short for butane hash oil, also called honey oil. A cannabis concentrate made using butane, heat, and pressure.

Blunt: A cigar that has been emptied and filled with cannabis. Rolled with a tobacco leaf or a blunt wrap instead of paper.

Bong: A water pipe used for smoking cannabis and other herbs. Uses water filtration to provide cooler, smoother, and cleaner smoke.

Bubbler: A small water pipe similar to a bong but usually handheld. 

Bud: A synonym for cannabis flower (flower buds). 

Budder: Cannabis concentrate that is creamy in consistency, like butter. A wax extract that is moister than crumble. 

Cannabinoids: Compounds found in cannabis responsible for most of its psychoactive, mind-altering, and therapeutic effects. Over 100 different cannabinoids exist in cannabis, with THC and CBD being the most prominent.

Cannabis: A synonym for marijuana.

Capsule: A pill containing cannabis extract. Refers to the encapsulation of cannabis in a gelatin capsule.

CBD: Cannabidiol. The second-most prominent cannabinoid in cannabis. Known for its sedating and relaxing effects. Not mind-altering. 

CBG: Cannabigerol. A non-intoxicating cannabinoid believed to have therapeutic potential.

CBN: Cannabinol. A non-intoxicating cannabinoid 

CO2 Oil: A concentrated cannabis oil made using a CO2 extraction process.

Concentrates: Cannabis extracts containing large, concentrated amounts of cannabinoids and terpenes. Known for strong potency and flavor. Concentrates are generally named for their consistency or extraction method.

Dab/Dabbing: A method of consuming cannabis concentrates with the use of a dab rig.

Dispensary: A retail distributor of cannabis and cannabis products. 

Edibles: Cannabis-infused food, candy, and capsules. Infused with cannabis extract or decarboxylated flower. 

Endocannabinoid System: A physiological system of cell receptors, neurotransmitters, and phytocannabinoids inside of the body. Allows cannabinoids to produce their effects.

Entourage Effect: A proposed phenomenon whereby all of the psychoactive compounds in cannabis work together to produce more complete effects. 

Flower: A synonym for cannabis buds.

Hash/Hash Oil: Hash (hashish) is a solventless cannabis concentrate that can be either solid or ground up into dry sift. Hash oil, also known as honey oil, is a concentrated oil that is used for dabbing, vaping, and smoking.

Hemp: Hemp is a variety of the cannabis sativa species that is low in THC, high in CBD, and usually grown for industrial use. It’s federally legal to grow species of hemp that contain under 0.3% THC.  

Hybrid: A cannabis strain that contains a mix of both sativa and indica genetics. Produces a mix of head and body effects. 

Indica: A cannabis strain that contains predominantly indica genetics. Known for producing a strong body buzz as well as mental relaxation. Indicas are favorites among medical cannabis patients. 

Kief: A cannabis concentrate that is made by collecting the trichome crystals that cover cannabis buds and leaves. 

Kush: Kush is a particular variety of cannabis indica originating from the Hindu Kush mountain range. The kush genetic line features plenty of strong indica strains known for their physical and cerebral sedation. 

Landrace: A type of cannabis strain that has pure genetics and has not been crossbred with any other cannabis strain.

Live Resin: A cannabis concentrate known for its intense flavor, live resin is made by flash freezing fresh cannabis plants and then extracting the cannabinoids and terpenes from it. Sold as an oil in a vape cart or a concentrate for dabbing.

Marijuana: A synonym for cannabis. 

OG: Short for ‘original’. Popularized by the strain OG Kush. 

Pre-roll: A cannabis joint that has already been rolled. Available for purchase at dispensaries. 

Resin: See live resin.

Rosin: Rosin is a cannabis concentrate that is made by using heat and pressure to squeeze resinous sap from the cannabis plant. Hash rosin follows the same process but with the pressure and heat applied to hash. This process may result in the loss of some terpenes, but there are full-spectrum products available.

RSO: Rick Simpson Oil. A potent cannabis concentrate known for its medicinal potential, often sold in a syringe and taken sublingually.

Sativa: A cannabis strain/product that contains predominantly sativa genetics. Known for producing strong, uplifting, and euphoric cerebral effects.

Shatter/Ice: Shatter is a kind of cannabis concentrate that looks like a thin sheet of oil. Shatters into many pieces when handled.

Strain: A particular variety of cannabis that has a unique genetic profile. 

Sugar: A cannabis concentrate that has a consistency akin to wet sugar. Similar to sauce but not as thick.

Syringe: A medical syringe that has been repurposed to carry concentrated cannabis oil. Not for injecting, for vaping!

Terpene: An aromatic compound found in natural plants, including cannabis. Responsible for giving cannabis its smell and flavor. May have therapeutic potential.

THC: The most prominent cannabinoid in cannabis. THC is responsible for producing marijuana’s mind-altering psychoactive effects. Has shown potential in the treatment of pain, inflammation, insomnia, and more. 

Tincture: A concentrated cannabis liquid that is usually applied sublingually or added to foods and liquids. 

Topical: A product that is applied directly to the skin. 

Trichome: Tiny THCA crystalline structure that covers cannabis. 

Vape Cartridge: A cartridge filled with concentrated cannabis oil. Usually pairs with a 510 thread battery in order to function as a vape pen, though there are also speciality pods available for particular batteries like the Pax Era or the Dart.

Vaporizer: An electronic tool used to vaporize cannabis, cannabis oils, and cannabis concentrates.

Wax: A cannabis concentrate that resembles wax.
